The History of Warren Window & Supply

From a telephone number, post office box, and small leased office--to one of the state's most trusted window and door distributors, this is the story of Warren Window & Supply.

Back in 1982, Dan Warren convinced Marvin Windows and Doors to let him take over distribution for Western South Dakota and Eastern Wyoming. Dan brought in his father Paul, who had years of industry experience. Their humble beginning was typical for small mid-west businesses--A lot of hard work, dedication, perseverance, and patience.

While Dan spent most of his time traveling around to lumber dealers, Paul ran the office. Long before computers, Paul, known for his perfect penmanship, did everything with pen and paper, including the purchase orders, invoices and statements.

The first delivery from Marvin consisted of 15 windows. Dan remembers it as a dream come true seeing that big yellow and brown semi truck pull into the yard for the first time, to drop off the windows they had ordered. Dan packed up his pickup and made his first job site deliveries.

As Warren Window & Supply's business grew over the years, so did the size of their trucks. When the windows to be delivered to job sites were more than Dan's pickup could handle, they rented a U-Haul trailer. Finally, in 1985, it was decided the company should purchase a 16' van trailer. A favorite memory from the good old days is "When Dan pulled into Rapid City with the new trailer, Paul looked at the trailer and asked 'How in the world are we supposed to sell enough windows to fill this?' "

In 1985, Eastern South Dakota was added to Warren Window & Supply territory by Marvin. To handle the increasing volume of Marvin products a larger trailer and an even bigger pickup was purchased. (Paul had no comment on this purchase.)

In 1992, Dan and Paul built a new office and warehouse in the Rushmore Industrial Park, and the company continues to operate there today. Also that year, the company purchased its first tractor-trailer and began to pick up their products from Marvin in Warroad, Minnesota. Warren Window & Supply expanded their territory to include Casper and Douglas, Wyoming in 2010. That same year, a second showroom was opened to service the Sioux Falls market.

The Warren family's involvement with the company continued as Dan's wife Paula came aboard in 1992, and their daughter Rebecca and her husband Darin joined in 2004 and 2009, respectively. Through the years, and now three generations, many things have changed at Warren Window & Supply. But some things have remained constant--an unwavering dedication to the community, a passion for excellence and a commitment to hard work.
